Sguardi intensi, smarriti, tenaci, pensosi, turbati\u2026 Volti che ci guardano da lontano fino a raggiungerci, che\u00a0emergono e s\u2019inabissano, circonfusi\u00a0da un velo lattescente che li avvolge, li accarezza o li opprime. Volti solitari e silenziosi, immersi nel proprio stato interiore, in un tempo senza tempo dove non arrivano la fretta e i rumori della quotidianit\u00e0. Ritratti\u00a0di bambini, di persone di ogni etnia e appartenenza sociale, a cui Gabriele Corni ha \u201cstrappato la maschera\u201d immergendoli\u00a0nell\u2019acqua, obbligandoli ad abbandonare ogni proiezione ideale di loro stessi, a confrontarsi con un elemento che mette in gioco il loro essere pi\u00f9 intimo e profondo. L\u2019acqua. Un elemento altamente destabilizzante, ricco com\u2019\u00e8 di molteplici valenze simboliche, capace di farsi contenitore materno e luogo dell\u2019origine, ma anche di trasformarsi in un\u2019entit\u00e0 opprimente che toglie il fiato,\u00a0 che pu\u00f2 trascinare nell\u2019abisso e ricordarci come il tempo della nostra vita abbia una scadenza.\u00a0Semisommerse in questo elemento primigenio, le persone perdono la loro maschera sociale per ritrovarne una pi\u00f9 arcaica e antica che pare osservarci da un passato insondabile. I volti che questo autore ci presenta paiono sospesi in uno stato di raccoglimento: si sono allontanati dal controllo di se stessi e dal tempo pressante della contemporaneit\u00e0, per ritrarsi nel profondo del loro essere.\u00a0Ma\u00a0tale ritrarsi trasforma simili volti in immagini suadenti e inquiete che ci interpellano, che ci ricordano un tempo in cui i ritratti dipinti potevano fare le veci della persona stessa. E lo potevano fare, non tanto perch\u00e9 somiglianti, o capaci di cogliere e rivelare l\u2019anima e l\u2019interiorit\u00e0 di chi veniva raffigurato, ma soprattutto in quanto presenze dotate d\u2019intensit\u00e0 e mistero. Un mistero\u00a0che emerge con forza anche dalle immagini di Gabriele Corni, dove l\u2019identit\u00e0 delle persone ritratte non viene posta, n\u00e9 dedotta: essa resta lontana, fluttuante, ma allo stesso tempo condivisa e sfuggente, intensa e fluida.<\/p>\n

These gazes are penetrating, bewildered, tenacious, troubled \u2026 Faces that stare at us, strike us from afar, emerged and submerged, bathed in a milky veil that envelops, caresses, or oppresses. Solitary, silent faces absorbed in their innermost self, in a timeless state, untouched by the haste and noise of daily life. Portraits of children, of people of every ethnos and social background: Gabriele Corni has \u201ctorn off their mask\u201d by immersing them in water, forcing them to abandon their ideal projections, to encounter the substance that challenges the most intimate aspects of their being: water. This highly destabilizing element abounds in symbolism: it protects us in the womb but also transforms into an overpowering force that can take our breath away, that can drag us into the abyss and remind us that life is not eternal. Semi-immersed in this primordial element, the subjects lose their social mask and reveal a more archaic one that looks at us from an unfathomable past. Gabriele Corni shows us faces suspended in meditation, forsaking self-control and the stress of everyday life to withdraw into their deepest being. These portraits transform their faces into persuasive, disturbing images that ask questions. They remind us of when painted portraits took the place of the person himself, not so much because they resembled the person portrayed or captured and revealed his spirit and soul, but rather because they radiated intensity and mystery. That same mystery emanates forcefully from Gabriele Corni\u2019s photographs, in which the identity of the persons portrayed is neither imposed nor inferred, but remains distant and fluctuating, shared and elusive, intense and fluid.<\/em><\/p>\n
